Client: City of Cornwall
Project: Smart City Cornwall (SSC) Optical Network Switching

Description:

Avalon works has been selected to supply, deliver and assist in installation and value-added services for network switching infrastructure to terminate member institutions into a fibre optic high-speed network serving up to 5 members of the City of Cornwall.

The switched network environment solution proposed by Avalon Works supports reliable, high performance information access and resource sharing across the network.

Based on its expertise in the area of high-speed optical network design architectures, including the integration, implementation, and service associated with similar networks, and with a reputation for providing leading-edge technologies and implementation methodologies, Avalon Works has proposed a switched network environment solution that supports reliable, high performance information access and resource sharing across the network.

The primary objectives of the project are:
  • Centralized control, monitoring and application distribution for SCC members with connectivity requirements;
  • High speed core end edge network switching architectures;
  • Recommendations for maintenance, monitoring and service of the network infrastructure at the core and member edge sites;
  • A physically and logically secure system architecture;
  • Ability to utilize network connectivity from an application standpoint, i.e. capability to support future expansions of VoIP, TCP/IP vs. ATM, etc…; and
  • Usage monitoring and reporting of network resources utilization.

Tasks performed:

  • Prepare a project implementation plan
  • Arrange for project status meetings and updates..
  • Deliver a final network diagram and technical specifications for hardware.
  • Make recommendations to SCC as to hardware maintenance coverage and costs.
  • Make recommendations to SCC for additional hardware/software purchases.
  • Procure the specified equipment and arrange for delivery.
  • Schedule and arrange for equipment training.
  • Submit a network infrastructure migration strategy for SCC approval..
  • Install, test and make ready for use all network infrastructure components.
  • Migrate the network infrastructure to a production state.
  • Perform a post implementation review for SCC acceptance.
